Botox®

Botox is a purified botulinum neurotoxin type A complex.  It causes temporary paralysis of the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles like the frown lines between your eyes, forehead lines and “crows feet” around the eyes.  It will erase dynamic lines and also prevent worsening of the lines in the treated area.  Botox lasts for 3 – 6 months depending on the area of the face.  Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating, migraines and teeth grinding.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are made from a naturally occurring sugar called hyaluronic acid.  It is a jelly like substance that is injected just underneath the skin to fill in static wrinkles like those around the nose (nasolabial folds) and mouth (marionette lines) as well as wrinkles on the cheeks or jaw line.  Fillers can also be used to replace lost volume in the lips. Fillers generally last for about 12 months depending on the area.

Pricing

As a guideline, the approximate quantities needed are below.  Botox cost is R75 per unit.

  • Forehead: ±10 – 15 units
  • Glabella (frown lines between eyes): ±20 – 30 units
  • Crows feet: ±12 – 18 units
  • Axillae (Underarms): 100 units

For the filler, the amount depends on how deep the lines are and also on how much you want done.  The filler comes in a sterile pre-filled syringe of 1ml which would be the minimum amount used per person. The cost is between R2750 and R4000 per syringe depending on the type.  We use more dense fillers for deeper areas like cheek and jaw sculpting which are more expensive but tend to last longer than the less dense ones used for lip contouring and finer lines. There is generally minimal downtime after the procedures.  You may have a little redness or develop a small bruise but this is not usually the case.  Exercise should be avoided for 12 hours after the procedure.
